Google engineering vice president, Venkat Panchapakesan, has posted a blog post saying that, as of 1st August “Google Apps will only support modern browsers. Beginning August 1st, we’ll support the current and prior major release of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time a new version is released, we’ll begin supporting the update and stop supporting the third-oldest version.”
As of 1st August, Google will discontinue support for Firefox 3.5, IE7, Safari 3 and their predecessors.
This may help to reduce the use of out-dated browsers such as Internet Explorer 6, which despite being nearly 10 years old (August 27th 2001) still accounts for 10.9% of the worldwide browser usage (according to the Microsoft IE 6 Countdown campaign www.theie6countdown.com), which Tortrix wholeheartedly support.
This move makes it more important to ensure your websites are compliant with modern browsers, Tortrix can help you to ensure your site provide the best possible experience for users using these latest technologies. For more information contact us at info@tortrix.net .
